Manie Pretorius used to be a sports enthusiast who weighed just 70 kilograms. Just a few years later, Pretorius weighed almost 200 kilograms and was diagnosed with diabetes.

No magic quick-fixes

He was surviving on multiple painkillers because his knees and back could not sustain the vast amount of weight he had put on.

Desperate, he underwent a gastric bypass operation – where parts of his stomach were stapled to make it smaller. Now healthier, Pretorius says there are no magic quick-fixes.

Losing weight and keeping the weight off is hard work, but he’s now committed to staying slim, for the sake of his health.
